Whether or not you consider yourself to be strictly a ‘collector’ of coins or an ‘investor’ in coins, general economic factors play a role in determining the underlying fair value of your coins and collections. Some coins are more closely tied to economic factors and the commodity prices than others (i.e. rare coins are not as closely, if at all, correlated with economic factors). I’d venture to say that most of us fall somewhere between the two ends to the spectrum, collector – investor, which can and probably has evolved over our time in the hobby.
Wherever you fall, understanding the various factors that impact and can swing the value is important to understand. Just like understanding macroeconomic factors is important when investing in the stock market, such factors are important to understand when collecting/investing in coins. This does not mean that you should base any coin buy/sell decisions on any one sole factor, however it should factor into your overall evaluation.
Therefore, the coin guys want to be a resource for you. We’ll do all the heavy lifting and will provide monthly summarized updates on the key economic factors which are moving the overall economy, updates on commodity prices and the rare coin index, and any other information deemed to be relevant to that month’s update.
These updates will be a part of The Choice Coin Journal, which you can sign up for here. And don’t worry, we don’t overload your inbox with messages as the journal is only published on a monthly basis 🙂 We have also published a few to the website so that you can get an idea of what these updates will look like.
